Introduction
The Film Festival 2026 was successfully organized by Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady on 16th and 17th February 2026 at the College Auditorium. The two-day event aimed to foster film appreciation, media literacy, and creative thinking among student teachers by exposing them to classic and contemporary cinema. The festival created a vibrant platform for students to engage with meaningful films, cinematic techniques, and social themes portrayed through visual narratives.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced at 9:30 AM with an inaugural ceremony. The event was formally inaugurated in the august presence of the Chief Guest, Sajas Rahman, a renowned film director. The vice principal (Mrs Praseeda V)l of the college presided over the function and welcomed the gathering. Faculty members and student representatives also extended warm greetings to the Chief Guest and participants.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest highlighted the educational significance of films in shaping perspectives, nurturing empathy, and developing critical thinking among students. He emphasized the role of cinema as a powerful pedagogical tool that can complement classroom teaching by bringing social realities, historical contexts, and human emotions to life.
Film Screening Sessions
The festival featured curated screenings of selected classic and contemporary films. The films were chosen to reflect diverse themes such as social justice, human values, cultural identity, inclusion, and personal growth. Each screening session was followed by a brief interaction and reflection session where students shared their interpretations, emotional responses, and critical observations regarding narrative style, character development, cinematography, and thematic relevance.
Interactive Session with the Chief Guest
A special interactive session was conducted with Sajas Rahman, during which students had the opportunity to interact directly with a professional from the film industry. He shared insights into the process of filmmaking, script development, direction, and the challenges faced by filmmakers in conveying socially relevant messages. The session was highly engaging, and students actively participated by asking questions related to film careers, media influence on youth, and the ethical responsibility of filmmakers.
The Film Festival served as an experiential learning opportunity for B.Ed. students, enabling them to understand how films can be used as instructional resources in classrooms to initiate discussions on social issues, values, and emotional intelligence. The event also enhanced students’ visual literacy and encouraged them to critically analyze media content rather than consuming it passively.
Student Participation and Response
Students from different batches actively participated in the festival. Their enthusiastic involvement was evident during the screening sessions, group discussions, and interaction with the Chief Guest. Many students expressed that the festival helped them view films from an educational and analytical perspective .
The Film Festival 2026 at Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady was a meaningful academic and cultural initiative that successfully blended entertainment with education.
