Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady organised an academic seminar on the theme “Indian Knowledge System” for the student teachers on 25 February 2026 from 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. in the Seminar Hall in collaboration with Sanskrit club and IKS cell . The seminar aimed to familiarise students with the richness and relevance of India’s indigenous knowledge traditions and to highlight their importance in contemporary teacher education.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Dhanya P. C., Assistant Professor in Sanskrit Education, who warmly welcomed the resource person, faculty members and student teachers. In her address, she highlighted the importance of reviving and integrating Indian knowledge traditions within modern educational practices.
The resource person was formally introduced by Dr. N. K. Arjunan, Principal of Adi Sankara Training College, who briefed the audience about the academic background and professional contributions of Prof. K. K. Harshakumar. The Principal emphasized the relevance of the topic and expressed confidence that the session would be highly beneficial to the student teachers.
The seminar was led by Prof. K. K. Harshakumar, Professor, Bhopal Campus, who delivered an engaging and insightful session on the Indian Knowledge System. He explained that the Indian Knowledge System is a comprehensive body of knowledge developed over centuries in diverse fields such as philosophy, education, ethics, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, linguistics, art and environmental studies.
The resource person highlighted how ancient Indian traditions promoted holistic development of the individual, integrating intellectual, moral, spiritual and practical dimensions of learning. He discussed the relevance of Indian epistemological traditions and learner-centred pedagogical practices in contemporary classrooms. The speaker also connected the Indian Knowledge System with present-day educational reforms and emphasized its significance in nurturing values, cultural rootedness and social responsibility among learners.
He further suggested practical ways in which future teachers can integrate Indian knowledge traditions into classroom teaching through storytelling, project-based learning, experiential activities and interdisciplinary approaches. The session encouraged students to view Indian Knowledge System as a dynamic and living tradition that can enrich modern education.
The session was followed by an interactive discussion, during which students actively participated by raising questions and sharing reflections. The resource person responded to queries related to the application of Indian Knowledge System in school curriculum and teacher education programmes. The discussion helped students gain clarity on how traditional knowledge can be meaningfully integrated with contemporary pedagogical practices.
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students of Adi Sankara Training College. The session broadened their understanding of India’s intellectual heritage and inspired them to adopt culturally responsive and value-oriented approaches in their future teaching careers. Students expressed that the seminar enhanced their appreciation of indigenous knowledge systems and their relevance in addressing present-day educational and social challenges.
The seminar on the Indian Knowledge System proved to be highly informative and enriching. The scholarly and practical insights shared by the resource person enabled the students to appreciate the philosophical foundations and contemporary relevance of contemporary Indian knowledge traditions. The programme successfully sensitised student teachers towards the integration of cultural heritage, ethical values and indigenous knowledge into modern education. The efforts of the Principal, faculty coordinators, NSS volunteers (if applicable) and students contributed to the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
