Introduction

Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS Units 244 & 301), organised a patriotic programme to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram on 25 February 2026 at 9.30 a.m. The programme was organised to honour the spirit of patriotism, freedom struggle and national integration, and to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The event witnessed active participation from students of all options and created an atmosphere of national pride and unity.

Inauguration and Introductory Speech

The programme commenced with a prayer and a patriotic invocation. This was followed by an introductory speech on the background of Vande Mataram. The speaker highlighted the historical significance of Vande Mataram, its role in inspiring the Indian freedom movement, and its importance as a symbol of national unity and cultural heritage. The speech emphasized how the song awakened patriotic consciousness among Indians and became a source of strength and motivation for freedom fighters. The address helped the students understand the emotional and historical relevance of the song in the nation’s journey towards independence.

Quiz Competition

A quiz competition was conducted by Mr. Santo from the Commerce option. The quiz focused on the history of Vande Mataram, the Indian freedom struggle, national symbols, and prominent freedom fighters. Students from different options participated enthusiastically. The competition created a spirit of healthy competition and teamwork among the participants. The interactive nature of the quiz kept the audience engaged and helped enhance students’ general knowledge and awareness of national heritage. Winners were appreciated and encouraged for their excellent performance.

Calligraphy Competition

As part of the programme, a calligraphy competition was organised to promote creativity and artistic expression among students. Students from all options actively took part in the competition. The participants beautifully presented patriotic quotes, lines from Vande Mataram, and messages of national unity through creative calligraphy. The competition provided a platform for students to express their love for the nation through art and to showcase their aesthetic talents. The displayed works attracted appreciation from teachers and students alike.

Student Participation and Engagement

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of all options. The activities encouraged students to actively engage with themes of patriotism, national identity and cultural pride. The involvement of NSS volunteers added to the success of the programme by ensuring smooth coordination and discipline throughout the event.

The programme commemorating 150 Years of Vande Mataram was a meaningful and inspiring event. The introductory speech helped students understand the historical background and significance of Vande Mataram. The quiz competition conducted by Mr. Santo and the calligraphy competition involving students from all options enriched the programme by combining knowledge, creativity and patriotic भावना. The event successfully instilled a sense of national pride, unity and respect for the sacrifices of our freedom fighters among the student community. The organisers, NSS volunteers and participants deserve appreciation for making the programme a grand success.
