Pongal celebrations

Pongal Celebration
Venue: Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady
Organised by: IQAC & Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club
 Occasion: Pongal Celebration
 Date: 14 January 2026

Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady, witnessed vibrant and culturally rich preparations for the Pongal celebration, organised by the IQAC in collaboration with the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club. The campus atmosphere reflected the spirit of harvest, gratitude, and unity as both faculty members and students actively participated in the preparatory activities.
The programme venue was arranged in the college courtyard, where traditional Pongal setups were created. Earthen pots were beautifully decorated with white kolam designs and floral patterns. Natural colours such as turmeric yellow, vermilion red, and white rice paste were used to enhance the traditional appearance of the pots. These activities symbolised prosperity, abundance, and respect for nature, which are central themes of the Pongal festival.
Students and teacher trainees were seen meticulously drawing kolams (rangoli) on the ground, forming traditional motifs that added aesthetic charm and cultural authenticity to the celebration area. The kolams were designed in circular and floral patterns, representing harmony, continuity, and auspiciousness. Plates of turmeric water and natural colours were kept ready for decorating the pots and marking ceremonial designs.
Faculty members guided and encouraged students throughout the preparation process, fostering teamwork, cooperation, and cultural appreciation. Dr Karpagam assistant Professor in general education has performed a pooja for Surya Bhagavan during the celebration. The involvement of both staff and students created a joyful learning environment where tradition blended seamlessly with institutional life. A large gathering of students stood around the preparation area, observing and appreciating the effort, which also served as a live demonstration of Indian cultural heritage.
The campus was further adorned with sugarcane stalks, symbolising agricultural prosperity and gratitude to farmers. The collective participation highlighted the values of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat by promoting respect for India’s diverse cultural practices and encouraging students to experience festivals beyond textbooks.
Overall, the Pongal celebration preparations at Adi Sankara Training College were not merely decorative activities but meaningful cultural engagements. The event successfully created awareness about the significance of Pongal as a harvest festival, strengthened bonds among students and teachers, and instilled respect for traditional practices, sustainability, and community living. The meticulous arrangements and enthusiastic participation laid a strong foundation for a joyful and memorable Pongal celebration on campus.
