Introduction

The Inter-Collegiate Fest titled “Alpha-Beta” was a grand initiative organized by the students of Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady. This event brought together students from multiple colleges to participate in a variety of intellectually stimulating and creatively engaging competitions.

The central theme of the fest revolved around mathematics and language, with a strong emphasis on promoting analytical reasoning, public speaking, writing skills, and artistic talent. The event was held on December 16, 2024, and served as a celebration of student potential, inter-collegiate friendship, and academic exploration.

Objective of the Fest

The primary objective of the fest was:

  • To encourage youth participation in academic and creative competitions.
  • To promote interest in the fields of mathematics and language, highlighting their real-world applications and significance.
  • To provide a platform for college students to express their ideas, opinions, and talents.
  • To enhance critical thinking, creativity, and team spirit among students through competitions.
  • To build inter-collegiate relationships and foster a sense of healthy competition.

By organizing this fest, the college hoped to instill enthusiasm for learning beyond classrooms and to recognize and reward students' efforts in various domains.

 

 Registration and Participation

Registration Details:

  • Base Registration Fee: ₹30 per person
  • Additional Event Fee: ₹10 per event
  • Timing: Registrations commenced at 9:30 AM on the day of the event.
  • Verification: Students were required to present valid college ID cards for identity verification.
  • Facilities: All participants were provided refreshments during the fest.
  • Logistics: Participants were given chest numbers for smooth identification and coordination during events.

To streamline the process, an online registration option via QR code was also available on the event flyer, allowing participants to pre-register conveniently.

 

 Competitions and Rules

Quiz Competition

  • This event was part of National Mathematics Day celebrations.
  • Each team consisted of two students per college.
  • The quiz was structured in three rounds:
    1. Preliminary (Written Round)
    2. Semi-finals (Oral)
    3. Finals (Rapid-Fire & Visuals)
  • Rules:
    • No use of calculators, mobile phones, or external aids.
    • No assistance from the audience was permitted.
    • In the case of a tie, a tie-breaker was conducted.
    • The quizmaster's decision was final and binding.
  • Prizes:
    • 1st Prize: ₹1500
    • 2nd Prize: ₹1000

 The quiz encouraged logical reasoning, team coordination, and general awareness in mathematics. It tested the participants' problem-solving abilities and helped reinforce their academic knowledge.

 Debate (Malayalam)

  • Teams of two debated on a topic in Malayalam, with one speaker arguing for and the other against the motion.
  • Speaking Time: 4 minutes + 1 minute for conclusion
  • Judgment Criteria:
    • Quality of content
    • Language fluency
    • Body language and confidence
    • Logical consistency and delivery
  • Topic:

Translation: “The role of social media in shaping modern youth’s thinking and behaviour.”

  • Prizes:
    • Best Team: ₹2000
    • Best Individual Performer: ₹1000

The debate aimed to improve public speaking, persuasion, and research skills. It encouraged participants to form balanced arguments and communicate their points effectively in Malayalam.

Photography Contest

  • Maximum of two participants per college were allowed.
  • The theme was disclosed on the spot, ensuring originality and spontaneity.
  • Participants could submit up to 4 photographs taken using a mobile phone.
  • Submission Requirements:
    • Only JPG format
    • No watermarks or editing allowed
    • A caption and a brief description (max 10 words) had to accompany each photo
  • Prizes:
    • 1st Prize: ₹1000
    • 2nd Prize: ₹50
    • This contest provided a space for students to express their creativity through visuals. It tested their ability to think artistically within time constraints and minimal resources.

Essay Writing (Malayalam)

  • Essay topics were given on the spot, encouraging spontaneous thinking.
  • Language: Malayalam
  • Time Limit: 1 hour
  • All materials (writing sheets) were provided by the organizers.
  • Rules:
    • Maximum two participants per institution.
    • Essays had to be original; plagiarism and use of offensive language led to disqualification.
  • Prizes:
    • 1st Prize: ₹1000
    • 2nd Prize: ₹750

The essay competition aimed to nurture writing skills, logical thinking, and expression in regional language. It promoted cultural preservation and communication skills.

Treasure Hunt

  • Each team had 3 members, with one team per college.
  • Participants followed sequential clues across multiple levels.
  • Rules:
    • Use of mobile phones or internet was strictly prohibited.
    • Tampering with clues or misbehavior led to disqualification.
  • Prize:
    • 1st Prize: ₹3000

 The treasure hunt was designed to test teamwork, logical deduction, and problem-solving. It added an element of fun and adventure to the fest, breaking the monotony of classroom-based activities.

General Instructions and Conduct

  • All events were monitored by expert judges, ensuring fairness and quality.
  • The decisions of judges were final and not open to challenge.
  • Participants were expected to follow guidelines strictly.
  • All literary works had to be original, encouraging creativity and integrity.
  • Event staff and volunteers ensured proper coordination and conduct throughout the day.

The Inter-Collegiate Fest “Alpha-Beta” was a vibrant and intellectually enriching event that brought together students from various colleges in a spirit of learning and collaboration. By focusing on mathematics and language, the fest successfully:

We, the students of Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady, are excited to announce an intercollegiate fest scheduled for 16th December 2024. The event aims to highlight the significance of mathematics and language while providing a platform for young minds to showcase their talents. It seeks to foster creativity and promote a spirit of enthusiasm among the youth.

 

 


 

 

Registration will commence at 9:30 AM

      All teams are to collect their chest numbers after registering on the day of the event.

      College ID proof of all participants should be presented while collecting the chest numbers for verification.

      Each events will be evaluated by experts. The judges' decision will be conclusive.

      Refreshments for the participants will be provided.      Plagiarisms in the literary events is not encouraged.


      Theme will be given on the spot.

      Photographs depicting the theme should be submitted.

      A maximum of two people can participate from an institution.

      A caption and a small description for the photo must also be submitted. Word limit- 10 words.

      Mobile photographs are accepted.    Number of photographs- 04.

      The photograph submitted should be in JPG format.

      Any watermarks, copyright marks, text or graphics on the image will lead to disqualification.

      Cropping is allowed. Plagiarism, editing photos post processing and photo-manipulation are strictly prohibited and will lead to disqualification.

       Topic will be given on the spot.

       A maximum of two people can participate from an institution.

       Time limit 1 hour.

       The content should be in Malayalam .

       The necessary paper and pens will be provided by the organizers.

       Plagiarism, use of foul language and jargons will lead to disqualification.

      The quiz will be conducting as a part of National mathematics day celebrations.

      Each team should consist of exactly 2 members.   Only one team is allowed from a college.

      The quiz will consist of multiple rounds, such as preliminary, semi-finals, and finals.

      Types of rounds may include written, oral, rapid-fire rounds.

      Participants are requested to follow the instructions of each rounds.

      No electronic devices, books, or other aids are allowed during the competition.

      In case of a tie, a special round will be conducted with few additional questions to determine the winner.

      No help from the audience is allowed.

      Teams engaging in misconduct, cheating, or violating rules may be disqualified.

      The quizmaster's decision is final and cannot be contested.

Judges or moderators may intervene if disputes arise.

      A team must have two members, one speaking for the motion and the other against the motion.

      Participants should produce a valid ID card issued from the concerned institution.

      A panel of eminent judges shall officiate the competition.

      The decision of the judges will be final.

      Each speaker shall speak for 4 + 1 minutes.

      Performance of the participants will be evaluated based on the criteria of content, diction, elegance, body language, and confidence level.

      Each team must consist of 3  members, with only one team allowed per institution.

      All participants must carry a valid institution-issued ID card.

      The hunt will include multiple levels or clues, which teams must solve in the given sequence to proceed. Skipping or altering the order is not allowed.

      Teams must adhere to the time limits set for each level, and external help, including mobile phones or the internet, is not permitted unless explicitly allowed.

      Damaging property or tampering with clues will result in immediate disqualification.

      The first team to solve all the clues and reach the final destination will be declared as the winner.

      Participants must maintain discipline, follow venue rules, and cooperate with organizers, whose decisions will be final.
