 Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady

 “ASTHRA 2024” – A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Spirit

The much-awaited Annual Sports Meet of Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady, titled “ASTHRA 2024”, was successfully held on February 6th and 7th, 2024 at the college ground. The vibrant event brought together the entire college community in a spirited celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and healthy competition.

The Sports Meet was inaugurated by Mr. Manikandan A R, a promising national football player, and a proud student of Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology (ASIET), who recently earned a place in the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Football Team. His inspiring presence and words served as great motivation for the budding athletes of the training college.

The event commenced with a grand march-past by the students representing various houses, showcasing discipline and team unity. The college principal formally welcomed the gathering, highlighting the significance of sports in fostering leadership, discipline, and physical well-being among student-teachers.

The torch was ceremoniously lit by distinguished athletes of the college, marking the official beginning of the sports competitions. The sports events included a wide array of track and field events such as 100m, 200m, 400m races, relay races, long jump, high jump, shot put, and discus throw. There were also fun games and staff events which added energy and enthusiasm to the occasion.

The students participated with great zeal, demonstrating not just physical strength but also immense sportsmanship and team spirit. The college ground echoed with cheer and applause as each winner was celebrated and encouraged by their peers and teachers.

At the closing ceremony, prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and outstanding performers. The overall championship trophy was awarded to the house that secured the highest points in various events. The Principal, in her valedictory address, congratulated all participants and organizers for making ASTHRA 2024 a grand success and emphasized the importance of balancing academics and physical activities in the teaching profession.

ASTHRA 2024 was not just a sports event, but a memorable experience that celebrated unity, resilience, and the spirit of youth — leaving lasting impressions on every participant and spectator alike.

Report on Community Living Camp  2022-2024

Theme: “Maarivilu – Change the Colour of Life”
Date: January 22 – 28, 2024
Venue: Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady

Introduction

The National Service Scheme (NSS) plays a crucial role in shaping the character and social responsibility of students by engaging them in constructive community service. With the aim of promoting volunteerism, social awareness, and leadership, Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady, organized a Seven-Day NSS Special Camp from January 22 to 28, 2024. The theme of the camp was “Maarivil – Change the Colour of Life”, reflecting the transformative journey of student volunteers in building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Objectives of the Camp

To instill social commitment and leadership among student volunteers.

To promote cleanliness, health, and environmental awareness in the community.

To engage students in meaningful service activities and skill development.

To provide exposure to real-life social issues and encourage teamwork.


Inauguration Ceremony – January 22, 2024

The camp officially began at 2:30 PM on January 22 with a vibrant inaugural session. The event was graced by the presence of:

The dignitaries addressed the volunteers and emphasized the significance of selfless service and community building. The day also included an orientation session on camp rules and responsibilities, followed by cultural performances.

An inspirational session titled "Icebreaking and Motivation" was conducted in the evening by Joison  Jose, a motivational speaker from BMC, Thrikkakara.



Day-wise Activities

January 23, 2024 

Morning: A comprehensive class  was conducted by  Kerala Police Department  on the topic Cyber Crime
Afternoon: Seminar on POSCO rule, which included awareness class about the rules  and regulations  by Adv. Varghese.

Afternoon session we had visited an agricultural farm to promote experiential learning.

 January 24, 2024

Morning: Awareness session on Self-Défense Techniques for women, focusing on practical skills and confidence building.

Afternoon: A mental health mentoring session by Shivasankar  M., a mental health advocate.

Evening: Screening of a social-awareness movie at Fore star Theatre Manjapra .

January 25, 2024

Morning: a fied trip to Panieli pore  to refresh the young minds.

Evening: Campfire and Cultural Night, where volunteers showcased their talents through songs, dance, skits, and storytelling, creating a bond of unity and joy.

January 26, 2024

Morning: A visit to Angamaly  Fire Station for understanding the activities and services provided by fire and safety department ,

Afternoon: Awareness class on Drug abuse by Excise Department Kalady

January 27, 2024

Morning: Students made a community garden at kalady town and hand over to Kalady Grama Panchayath

Afternoon: Awareness class on  Folklore .

Evening: Awareness class on short film making.

January 28, 2024

The final day included a field visit to an orphanage (Sreenarayanagiri,Thottumugam) in the morning. Volunteers conducted games and interactive sessions with the children.

At 2:00 PM, a valedictory session was held where participants shared their reflections, and certificates were distributed. Camp officers summarized the achievements and extended gratitude to all stakeholders.

Conclusion

The NSS Special Camp “Maarivilu” was a transformative and impactful experience that fostered a sense of responsibility, cooperation, and leadership among student volunteers. Through a variety of activities, the camp addressed vital community issues like cleanliness, environmental awareness, women’s safety, mental health, and inclusiveness. The hands-on experiences gained during the camp not only benefited the community but also left a lasting impression on the minds of the young volunteers.
